Jim Cramer is incredibly smart. He's way smarter than most people think he is. I believe that his show is extremely subversive in the way that it tries to teach people about the stock market.
You see, you and I aren't smart enough to know anything about the stock market. Jim Cramer realizes this, so he uses our pride against us, to trick us into learning about stocks and the economy. In order to make his television show about the stock market dumb enough for you or me to understand, he bangs a gong periodically and overuses sound effects. We say to ourselves, "This guy is so stupid. I bet he's going to say something really stupid now." But then he says something that is too smart for us to understand, because, in fact, we are stupid.
In my case, this caused me to read a whole bunch of books about the economy and the markets, so that I'd be smarter than Jim Cramer. Then I read his books about the stock market. Turns out that he's still way smarter than me. And I still don't understand some of the things he talks and writes about. He's too freaking smart, and the stock market is too hard to understand.
Given all of this, there's no way that Jon Stewart understands half of what Jim Cramer has to say about the market, or the economy, or what you and I should do with our money. He's not smart enough. Sorry. Jon's extremely funny, and is assuredly way smarter than me, but he's just not quite smart enough to be able to add any worthwhile information or ideas or commentary into the global discussion/rethinking of the economy. So I guess I'm not hopeful that anything meaningful is going to come from tonight's discussion between the two on The Daily Show.
